Should
you be visiting Maun at any time our 3 day mokoro safari is designed to
visit this special area in the Okavango Delta. You will leave Maun in
the morning of the the first day by boat or by 4X4 vehicle, depending
on the time of the year and the water levels in the Delta. The trip in
both cases will take about 3 hours with some spectacular scenery along
the way. You will arrive at our campsite at about noon. After lunch and
settling into your camp you will then depart on your first afternoon
mokoro excursion with your guide returning to camp at sunset. After tea
or coffee leave early the next day to explore the Delta further with
your guide. Here you will be able to do game viewing while walking. You
will return to camp at about 10:30 or before the day gets too hot.
Relax in camp under large trees during the heat of the day and then
leave again in the afternoon to explore another area of the Delta. Do
another early morning excursion on the third day. Leave to return to
Maun at about 13:00. You will end the safari by arriving in Maun on the
afternoon of the 3rd day.
You
have 3 options to choose from. If you want a bit of pampering you can
choose the fully catered and serviced option. Here our staff will set
up camp and the cook will provide delicious meals. If you do not have
camping equipment but wish to do your own catering you can choose our
second option. We will supply all the camping equipment and you will
have to supply and prepare your own food. If you do have your own
camping equipment you can choose our third option. In all the options
we will supply the transport in and out of the Delta. We will also
supply the guide and mokoro and will pay the necessary game reserve
fees.
Our
mokoro safaris are conducted in the Chief's Island area of the Okavango
Delta. This is also part of the Moremi Game Reserve and has been
declared a wilderness area. This means that there are no permanent
camps or lodges in this area. This serves to provide a true African
wilderness experience.
Your guides in the Delta are
all qualified and registered guides who have an intimate knowledge of
the Delta. Most of them were born in the Delta. By following their
explicit instructions this will ensure you of a truly rewarding bush
experience.
