Our "Old Time" Safaris

Why do your Safari with us?
Many visitors to Africa will not get to see that "Old Time" Africa. They will spend their vacation in a luxury lodge. Unfortunately the opulance of most lodges detracts from the experience of "being in the bush".

The Okavango Delta is the world's largest inland delta. This is a unique and delicate eco-system and it is host to numerous land and water animals. It's importance as a wetland area has finally been recognized and has been declared a Ramsar site. There are also a small number of people that have traditionally lived in the Okavango Delta as hunter gatherers. It is into this water wonderland, accompanied by the people who live there, where you will taken to truelly experience that "Old Time" Africa.

From Maun, board a small, but safe, bush plane that will take you to a remote area of the Okavango Delta. On the way get a remarkable bird’s eye of the beautiful Okavango Delta river system. Because it is remote the animals in the delta do not see hordes of tourists and are still suspicious and afraid of people. This means that you are able to walk across the land in safari fashion in search of animals. In almost all game reserves you are confined to your vehicle. You miss the experience of walking the land and taking in Africa with your eyes, nose, ears, and touch. It is a completely different experience.

When you arrive at the bush airstrip your safari crew will greet you and pack your belongings on a mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) for a trip along the waterways to your first campsite on your safari.  In the evening, gather around the campfire, relaxing as the safari crew prepares your meal over the open fire. You can talk about the day's events, just gaze at the Southern Cross and the myriad of stars of the southern hemisphere and listen to mysterious night sounds.

Experience the thrill of tracking lions on foot (optional). Walk up to a herd of Zebra and Wildebeest and watch them part as you walk up to them. As you mokoro through the river system photograph elephants as they play along the banks of the river within 50 feet of you. Also listen to the sounds of the rich birdlife. Your guide will point them out to you as he leisurely poles you along. By the end of your safari you will be able to identify the various birds by their call as well as by sight..

Your guide will show you the tracks of the various animals, teach you basic tracking skills, if you are so inclined.  Your eyes will grow keen and in tune with the Delta and not only will you be able to spot the these animals far in the distance but with a bit of effort and practice you will be able to identify and name them.

For the more adventurous, you can learn to pole the mokoro Botswana style (standing in the canoe). If fish is in your diet, you can elect to participate in traditional Botswana net fishing in the clean abundant waters of the Delta.

An “Old Time" safari is about exploration, adventure, safety, service and relaxation (no hectic travel just leisurely walking at your own pace).

At the end of your “Old Time" safari you will have seen more and experienced more of the Africa of your dreams than people who have gone to Africa numerous times.  You will have a lifetime of memories only a handful of people even knew were possible.
